“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.”
Proverbs 17:22, 16:24 King James Version
Did you know that if we would encourage one another on a daily basis and stop being so critical, sarcastic and judgmental of each other that we would have no need of medicine? There would be no heart attacks or arthritis. If we would hug one another daily, either physically or by words, emails or letters, we wouldn’t feel so alone and feel like nobody cares about us and we wouldn’t have this added stress on us. Jesus loves us so much that He wants us to be happy. He doesn’t want us to be discouraged; He wants us to be encouraged and He wants us to encourage one another.
Jesus is the great Physician. He has already out of His precious and tender heart of kindness, caring, unconditional love, compassion, grace, mercy and understanding given us the only prescription that we need in the Holy Bible. The problem is that we have not followed the orders that He has given to us. If we were to love one another as He has commanded us to love them, we would have a lot less unhappiness in our homes, in our families, in our marriages and in the world. It is not an option to love one another; it is a commandment!
According to the Bible and our great Physician’s prescription, we don’t need mental hospitals or any other kind of hospital. We don’t need to spend money for ten or twenty prescriptions for depression. What we need to do is stop being critical, sarcastic and judgmental of our families, loved ones and the world.
It is very important and extremely urgent that we start to follow our great Physician’s orders! We need to ask Jesus to please fill our hearts with so much compassion for others that we will start dispensing kindness, forgiveness, understanding, unconditional love, mercy, tenderness and forgiveness to our families, to our loved ones and friends and to the world.
This prescription is free for us. We couldn’t buy it even if we had all the money in the world. Our precious Saviour purchased this prescription for us when He died on the cross for our sins. Yes, it is free to us but it was very expensive for Jesus; it cost Him everything, His very life! There is no one like Jesus! No one loves us like Jesus loves us. He is a friend beyond compare. Thank God for this beautiful prescription of forgiveness, mercy, grace and unconditional love which was purchased for us on the cross by our amazing and lovely Saviour!
Many years ago while going through all those years of devastating depression, I was taking twenty six pills a day that had been prescribed for me because the doctors were trying to stop my depression. It didn’t work; all it did was make me more depressed and unable to function.
Yes, all that medicine didn’t work and it will never work for anyone. The pills may give us a temporary relief from stress but the stress, anguish, horror and pain comes back with an even greater impact. Only Jesus can heal a broken heart. Only Jesus can fill us with joy, peace, happiness and contentment. What a wonderful loving Saviour we serve! We don’t deserve His tender love but thank God that He loves us enough to not only be our Saviour, but also to be our friend.
Thank You, Father, for opening Your heart of love and sending Your Son to become our prescription for love, joy, peace and happiness. We love You, Father. We love You, Jesus. We love You, Holy Spirit. Thank You for all You have done for us. Especially thank You for loving us when we fail You and hurt You. Amen.
